Maciej Maławski is passionate about turning advanced computing into practical tools for science and medicine. His interests span high performance computing, cloud technologies, distributed systems, scientific workflows, and AI driven data analysis, with a particular focus on accelerating biomedical research.

As Director of the Sano Centre for Computational Personalized Medicine and an Associate Professor at AGH University, he works on bridging large scale computing infrastructures with personalized healthcare. Outside the lab, he enjoys spending his free time exploring the mountains around Kraków and hiking in mountain ranges around the world, reflecting the same curiosity and determination that shape his scientific work.

 
 
Lars Juhl Jensen

Dr. Lars Juhl Jensen is a bioinformatician whose research focuses on protein function prediction, integration of omics data, text mining, and biological network analysis. He earned his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics from the Technical University of Denmark and has held research positions at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory and the University of Copenhagen’s Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research.

He has authored more than 250 scientific publications with over 100,000 citations and is widely recognized for his contributions to computational biology. In addition to his academic work, he co-founded the bioinformatics company Intomics, now ZS Discovery, where he serves as Director.

MCB at Gaia AI Factory

Gaia AI Factory is a flagship artificial intelligence initiative operated by ACK Cyfronet AGH, Poland's national high-performance computing centre and a member of the EuroHPC ecosystem. Supported by a €70 million investment from Poland and EuroHPC JU, the project will provide next-generation AI infrastructure based on a new supercomputer equipped with more than 1,000 AI-optimized GPUs.

The Małopolska Centre of Biotechnology (MCB), Jagiellonian University, is a member of the Gaia AI Factory consortium. MCB researchers are developing advanced AI solutions for biomedical research, genomics, and structural biology.

Prof. Paweł Łabaj leads the development of computational tools for predicting the spread of pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes through large-scale exposome modelling. Dr. Mateusz Sikora is scaling the GlycoShield platform for AI-assisted protein structure prediction in combination with AlphaFold2. The MCB activities within Gaia AI Factory are coordinated by Prof. Paweł Łabaj, Dr. Mateusz Sikora, and MSc. Wojciech Pilch.

As part of Cyfronet's advanced computing ecosystem, Gaia AI Factory will provide researchers, startups, industry, and public institutions with access to world-class AI infrastructure, accelerating innovation in healthcare, bioinformatics, life sciences, and other strategic sectors while strengthening Europe's technological sovereignty.

Klemens Noga is the head of training, a trainer, and a software specialist at the Academic Computing Centre Cyfronet AGH in Kraków. He holds a PhD in theoretical and computational chemistry and has been using various HPC systems for more than twenty years. He has been sharing knowledge and best practices across various aspects of scientific computing and HPC systems for more than 15 years.
 
Currently, he leads training efforts at Cyfronet, the Polish part of LUMI AI Factory, and Gaia AI Factory. He is involved in training activities of the Polish National Competence Centre in HPC.

Oskar Klimas is a trainer, helpdesk and software specialist at the Academic Computing Centre Cyfronet AGH in Kraków.
 
His background is theoretical chemistry, and he had firsthand experience with HPC from both a user perspective and “from the kitchen”. He teaches the basics of Bash, HPC, and how to use our resources efficiently. He is also in charge of making and running software benchmarks and installing selected software.
 
When it comes to supporting users via helpdesk, he has experience with a range of software, primarily in computational chemistry, including Gaussian, ADF, GROMACS, and LAMMPS.

Sikora Lab | Dioscuri Centre for Modelling of Post-Translational Modifications

Sikora Lab develops computational methods to understand how post-translational modifications regulate protein structure and function. The laboratory combines molecular dynamics simulations, structural biology, artificial intelligence, and high-performance computing to investigate protein interactions, disease mechanisms, and host-pathogen biology.

By performing large-scale simulations on supercomputers, the team supports advances in protein modelling, drug discovery, and AI-driven structural biology, contributing to new therapeutic strategies for cancer, infectious diseases, and neurological disorders.

Her research applies comparative genomics and phylogenetic methods to investigate the mechanisms and timing of evolutionary change in prokaryotes and unicellular eukaryotes.

She works on improving and optimizing phylogenetic workflows while developing computational pipelines that support efficient evolutionary analyses. Together with a multidisciplinary team of undergraduate and graduate researchers, her work advances our understanding of microbial evolution and provides practical bioinformatics tools for the broader scientific community.

Taras K. Oleksyk is an Associate Professor at Oakland University and a US Fulbright Scholar in Poland. His research centers on genomic diversity and its role in adaptation and disease. In addition to studying human populations in the Caribbean and Eastern Europe, he works on conservation genomics of endangered species. Dr. Oleksyk has contributed to multiple genome projects and selection scans, including Amazon parrots and African cheetahs. At the same time, he has organized one of the largest population genomics studies in Europe, focusing on Type 1 Diabetes.
